Module 09 of 10

Monitoring & Governance

Lessons

About This Module

Deploying resources is only half the job — you also need to know they're healthy, know what they cost, and know that nobody can quietly misconfigure them. This module covers the two sides of keeping an Azure environment under control: monitoring, so you can see what's happening, and governance, so you can constrain what's allowed to happen.

On the monitoring side, you'll work with Azure Monitor for metrics, logs, and alerts, Log Analytics for querying that data with KQL, and Cost Management for tracking spend and catching runaway bills with budgets and alerts before they become a surprise. On the governance side, you'll see how management groups organize subscriptions at scale, and how Azure Policy and initiatives enforce standards — naming conventions, allowed regions, required tags — automatically, across every resource in scope.

Work through the lessons in order, then continue on to Security & Compliance.

Azure Monitor — Complete Guide to Monitoring & Diagnostics

A beginner's tour of Azure's observability platform: metrics vs. logs, setting up alerts and action groups, and using Azure Monitor to understand the health and performance of your resources.

02

Analyze Your Infrastructure Using Azure Monitor Logs

From Microsoft's official AZ-104 video series: querying and analyzing infrastructure data with Log Analytics and Kusto Query Language (KQL) to troubleshoot issues and understand trends across your resources.

03

Azure Policy Initiatives

Also from Microsoft's official AZ-104 series: how Azure Policy definitions and initiatives enforce standards and effects — like allowed regions, required tags, or naming conventions — across subscriptions and management groups.
