Module 08 of 10

Networking & APIs

About This Module

Most apps talk to a server: to load a feed, sign a user in, or send data back. This module shows how an Android app calls a web API and puts the result on screen.

Begin with how HTTP and REST work, then use Retrofit to describe an API as a Kotlin interface. Combine it with coroutines so requests run off the main thread, parse the JSON response into data classes, and expose the result from a ViewModel as loading, success, and error states for your Compose UI.

The lessons below are video tutorials. Start with the first Retrofit video, then follow the Compose and MVVM one, and finish with coroutines. Once you can fetch and show remote data, continue on to Testing & Debugging.
