Security work is full of repetitive jobs: checking hundreds of log lines, scanning lists of hosts, comparing files. Scripting turns those jobs into something a computer does for you. This module starts with Bash, where you'll use variables, conditionals, loops and functions to automate the command-line skills from the last module.
Next you'll learn regular expressions and how to combine them with grep, sed and awk to pull IP addresses, emails and failed logins out of raw text. Then you'll learn Python from the ground up, covering strings, control flow, functions and data structures, and put it to work on security automation such as file scanning and network sweeps.
With the ability to script, you'll be ready for the next module, Cryptography Fundamentals, where you'll see how data is protected.
What shell scripting is and how to write it: variables, conditionals, loops and functions, plus a worked example that renames many files at once.
Basic regex patterns, character classes, anchors and quantifiers, then using them with grep, sed and awk to find email addresses, IP addresses and other patterns in text.
Python from scratch: data types, strings, control flow and loops, functions, lists and dictionaries, with a password checker and a simple authentication system as projects.
Three practical automation techniques: scanning files for threats, ping-sweeping a network, and scraping public information for OSINT.
