With Xcode ready to go, it's time to learn the language every iOS app is written in. Swift is designed to be readable and safe, and this module covers the small set of building blocks that every other lesson in the course depends on.
It starts with printing output: displaying text,
numbers, and calculations, adding comments, and using Swift's
basic math operators. From there it covers
variables and constants, which hold the data your
app works with, including when to use var versus
let and how to name things the Swift way. The last two
lessons are broader tours of the language, a one-hour overview of
the essentials and a full beginner course that goes deeper into
types and operators.
Watch the lessons in order, then continue on to Collections & Control Flow.
Display text, numbers, and calculations with print(), add comments to your code, and use Swift's basic math operators.
Store values with var and let, change them over time, and name them using Swift's camelCase convention.
A one-hour tour of the Swift language essentials from Paul Hudson of Hacking with Swift.
Sean Allen's complete beginner course, covering Swift types, variables, operators, and more alongside Xcode and simple apps. A long watch, so treat it as an optional deep dive. The demos were recorded for iOS 15, but the Swift fundamentals still apply.
