About This Module

Every cloud architecture decision rests on a handful of core ideas, and this module covers them. You'll start with what cloud computing actually is and how the three service models, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, differ in how much you manage yourself and how much the provider handles for you.

Next you'll look at how providers lay out their infrastructure, using regions and availability zones to understand where your workloads physically run and why that affects latency, compliance, and reliability. You'll also learn the shared responsibility model, which sets out what the provider secures and what remains your job.

The module closes with a side-by-side look at the three big platforms, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, so you can compare them on services, pricing, and fit before you commit to one. The following modules build on these ideas, starting with networking.
