Compute is where your code actually runs, and the cloud gives you several ways to run it, each trading control for convenience. Choosing between them is one of the most common decisions a cloud architect makes, and this module walks through the main options from the most hands-on to the most managed.
You'll start with virtual machines, using Amazon EC2 as the example: a server you configure and manage yourself. Then you'll look at serverless computing with AWS Lambda, where you supply a function and the provider handles the servers, scaling, and patching.
The second half covers containers. You'll see how Docker packages an application and its dependencies so it runs the same way everywhere, and how Kubernetes manages many containers across many machines. Next up is storage and databases, the other half of most workloads.
A from-scratch introduction to Amazon EC2, the virtual server service from AWS, and how renting a virtual machine in the cloud works.
A beginner-friendly explainer on AWS Lambda and serverless computing, where you run code without provisioning or managing servers.
A fast introduction to Dockerfiles, images, and containers, and why containers have become the standard way to package applications.
The basics of Kubernetes and how it is used to scale containers to large workloads in the cloud.
