Module 02 of 10

.NET Platform & Tooling

Lessons

About This Module

C# is the language, but .NET is the platform that builds and runs it. Before going deeper into code, it helps to know what is actually happening when you press run: how your source is compiled, what executes it, and which tools sit around it. This module gives you that picture.

You'll start with what .NET is and what you can build with it, then learn the difference between the SDK, the runtime, and the CLR. From there you'll work with the dotnet CLI to create, build, run, and publish projects, and use NuGet to add third-party libraries to your code.

With the platform and tooling in place, you'll be ready for the next module, Advanced C#, which goes beyond the basics of the language.
