Module 9 of 10

Observability & Reliability

Lessons

About This Module

Once your workloads are running in the cloud, you need to know what they are doing. Observability is the ability to understand a system from the data it produces: metrics, logs, and traces.

You'll start with Prometheus for metrics-based monitoring and OpenTelemetry for tracing and instrumentation. Then you'll move on to Site Reliability Engineering, where reliability becomes something you can measure and manage using SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs.

Next up is Internal Developer Platforms & Security, where you'll bring everything together into a self-service platform for your developers.

01

How Prometheus Monitoring works | Prometheus Architecture explained

How Prometheus collects and stores metrics: the server, targets, exporters, and how it fits into monitoring modern containerised systems.

02

OpenTelemetry Course - Understand Software Performance

A hands-on introduction to OpenTelemetry, covering observability, metrics, logs, and traces, and how to set up distributed tracing across microservices.

03

What's the Difference Between DevOps and SRE? (class SRE implements DevOps)

How Site Reliability Engineering relates to DevOps, and the practices SRE adds on top: measurement, automation, and blameless postmortems.

04

SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, oh my! (class SRE implements DevOps)

How service level indicators, objectives, and agreements fit together, and how they turn reliability into something you can measure.
